You Must Come and Tell Us What is Happening in Rivers State –Senate Summons IG

The "madness" being perpetuated by the police in Rivers State as led by CP Joseph Mbu reverberated on the floor of the Senate on Wednesday and it led to a noisy session. The Senate President, David Mark even had to state categorically that “the Rivers problem is beyond me”.

Before summoning the Inspector General of Police, Senate President Mark said:
I already have enough problems in my hands. You recall that the Senate mandated me to mediate in the Rivers State crisis. I even involved the distinguished female senators of this chamber, but we could not make any headway.
The Rivers problem is beyond me. I did not report back to the Senate because we did not make any headway.”
Not withstanding, the Senate resolved to invite the Inspector General of Police, Abubakar Mohammed, to give the federal lawmakers a situation report of the dangerous development in Rivers State.

Senator Mark watched in disbelief as voices rose and some senators formed a ring around Senator Manager who had made negative remarks about another colleague who called for investigation into Rivers crisis.

Senator Manager is a PDP senator from Delta who supports President Goodluck Jonathan no matter what.

A group of senators prevailed on Manager to apologise to his colleague who he insulted, Senator Lawan, and also reminded him that the proceedings were being televised live. He later apologized.

Consequently, Senator David Mark refused to support his PDP men who hard thought he would killed the case but insisted that the IG of Police must appear before the Senate for interrogation.
