Obasanjo's Camp Fights Back Strategises For 2015

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and his political associates are believed to be regrouping and strategising for the 2015 general elections if only to get back at President Goodluck Jonathan following their exchange of publicised letter in which they criticised each other.

The relationship between Obasanjo and Jonathan has gone sore of recent over the perceived second term ambition of the latter which has led to internal bickering in the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) which is facing the greatest threat since its creation in 1998.

President Jonathan has hijacked the party machinery at the expense of his political adversaries and this has led to the defection of some PDP chieftains including governors of Adamawa, Kano, Sokoto, Rivers, and Kwara states, and many national lawmakers to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

But if a close confidant of Obasanjo could be believed, then the former President and his associates are not giving up over the soul of the troubled party.

The source who does not want his name in print disclosed some of the plans being made by his camp to fight back come 2014.

“We have moved beyond the historic letter written by Baba (Obasanjo) and the tissues of lies and abuse Jonathan made in his response.

We would know who is telling the truth of the two as we enter into 2014.

Jonathan has claimed that he was not working for his second term when everything on ground contradicts his claim.

His political adviser is supervising the second term project and Senator Ibrahim Mantu is the national co-ordinator, yet he says he has not shown any interest.

Those who do not share his second term vision are being frustrated out of the party but like Baba has told the APC leaders who came to woo him, we are not living the party, we would remain to liberate the party,” the source said.

On what to do, the source disclosed that Obasanjo would no longer speak on the issue but if the need arises, the running-mate to Tunji Olurin in the last governorship election in Ogun State and a media practitioner, Tunde Oladunjoye, has been mandated to be the spokesman of the Obasanjo camp.
