‘Limpopo‘ – KCEE
This is the song that gave KCEE the final breakthrough; written by Harrysong and produced by Del B, the Pop tune propelled KCEE into the limelight and literally changed the course of his career. ‘Limpopo’ is so much of a party hard tune that we didn’t bother doing that shameless ‘two-finger- KCEE dance.
‘Sho Lee‘ – Sean Tizzle
How about having this for a first single? Sean Tizzle who had just left Sound Sultan’s Najia Ninjas crew took along a couple of his former boss’ written songs and met up with budding talented hit maker DeeTunes (who had just parted ways with Iyanya). The result was ‘Sho lee’, an infectious high-tempo club song that had everybody asking if she/he/it was ‘tough enough’ or not.
‘Skelewu‘ – Davido
Usual collaborators Pop singer Davido and producer Shizzi stunned us all with this unusual syrupy tune called ‘Skelewu’, which instantly became a fan favourite when it dropped in August. Don’t act like you never stretched your hand out and swerved your shoulders as you attempted to do ’Skelewu’ the dance better than the originator.
‘Gobe‘ – Davido
Before ‘Skelewu’ dropped, Davido hooked up with song writer Password and producer Shizzi for his first post-debut album smash hit ‘Gobe’. The huge Pop tune cemented his place on the A-list sheet and in the clubs.
‘Caro‘ – StarBoy feat Wizkid, L.A.X
Wizkid dropped a couple of singles in 2013 but it was his collaborative effort with his StarBoy label rookie L.A.X and in-house producers Legendury Beatz that made the highest end of the charts. Many have sang about this lady ‘Caro’ but Wizzy’s description over that Afrobeat tune stands out.
‘Rotate‘ – Wande Coal
Before their childish fight on Twitter Wande Coal and Don Jazzy were an item. Having released a previous collaboration in 2013 (‘The Kick’), the pair worked on another, this becoming an instant monster jam.
‘Yes/No‘ – Banky W
Not only did the Cobhams-produced ‘Yes/no’ performed by Banky W turn out to be his biggest hit tune from his R&BW album, the mid-tempo RnB tune got him millions of wedding performances around the country. This was a big song for the lovers in 2013.
‘Sexy Mama‘ – Iyanya feat Wizkid
This is what you get from two Pop giants who decided to talk about African women on a DeeTunes produced track. The great thing about the song is the way Iyanya and Wizkid’s verses were weaved into each other. The song was so pacey, you’d have to hit the repeat button at least twice to have a full dose.
‘Eminado‘ – Tiwa Savage feat Don Jazzy
We once described this song as ‘totally horrible, unimaginably boring and a complete waste of time’. We still think it is but who are we compared to the millions of Nigerians that think otherwise? To the millions blasting this from their mobile phones to the other millions dancing to it in the clubs?
‘Durosoke‘ – Olamide
Probably his biggest hit ever, Olamide’s casual delivery on this Mr Pheelz produced number blew his career beyond boarders.
‘Ada Ada‘ – Flavour
We won’t deny, we all wanted to get married when we heard this song. Definitely hyped by the wedding themed video, Flavour’s ‘Ada ada’ became at a point the number one song in the east and number one song at every wedding in the country.
‘Personally‘ – Psquare
Peter and Paul Okoye had a brilliant year – without the release of an album, they maintained their high ranks with the aid of the Pop tune Pidgin English delivered ‘Personally’. Whether we will ever get to know the meaning of ‘habatically’ is a topic for another day…
