Tottenham Hotspur vs. Liverpool (White Hart Lane, November 28th
This match will go one of two ways. It’s either going to be a tightly-contested slugfest with Liverpool actually playing up to their capabilities, with Spurs throwing a few punches of their own or...or Liverpool is going to get owned.
Spurs have been playing so well this season, for the most part, and really could do a lot of damage to Liverpool’s already flailing aspirations with a knockout right cross in this one. Harry Redknapp has his boys clicking in all phases of the game and their midweek destruction of a very formidable Werder Bremen side was evidence of this.
You have to give the Reds and Roy Hodgson credit though as they started the year pretty miserably and have since righted the ship. Their 2-0 loss to Stoke a few weeks ago being the biggest hiccup. The return to form has little to do with tactics or strategic adjustments as Hodgson has continually employed a slightly negative approach to his new side.
No, Liverpool have been experiencing the benefits of their mojo and its subsequent return to said owner. It’s always hard when a good team struggles early on because they begin to question if they’re good enough and if all the hype was justified. Footy players are quite egotistical you know. Now that they’ve got a good run behind them and have started enjoying their ball more, good things have come their way. All psychological if you ask me.
Going through the reverse of that is Spurs who have really been playing some quite excellent footy this year and are currently flying high despite only being in 6th place. With a number of teams chipping at their heels, getting a result at home against a big club like Liverpool would really do a lot for their confidence.
